Going Green At Home Hits A Milestone In St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Home Energy Squads in St. Paul have hit a milestone, visiting their 4,000th home today helping to save energy and money.
The squads go in to homes and make low cost upgrades -- things like putting in new light bulbs, adding weather stripping and low-flow shower heads.
The changes have saved an average of $190 a year for each home. That totals nearly $800,000 for all the homes they've visited in St. Paul.
"This is the first step towards energy conservation initiatives that we're doing in St. Paul. Second step is they may be recommended to do a more thorough energy audit," said St. Paul Energy Policy Director Anne Hunt.
"A lot of homeowners this is all new to them. So they're very appreciative of everything we're doing and very excited to follow up with the next steps we tell them," said Jeremy Aaron with Home Energy Squad.
The energy squads are funded by CenterPoint and Xcel Energy. Homeowners put down a small co-pay in exchange for hundreds of dollars in energy efficient improvements.
