Freezing Temperatures Stop Climber's Attempt On Mt. McKinley
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota man is no longer climbing up Alaska's Mount McKinley.
Lonnie Dupre of Grand Marais, Minn., gave up his dream on Sunday because it was just too cold. It was 35 degrees below zero in a snow cave Dupre built about 3,000 feet below North America's tallest peak.
This is the third winter in a row that Dupre has tried to climb Mount McKinley. No one has ever made it to the top in January alone. Dupre did climb the mountain in June of 2010.
