Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they transported one person to a trauma center to be treated for injuries.
Communities likely to experience heavy rain, reduced visibility, and ponding of water on the roads include Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Hollywood, Aventura, and nearby coastal communities.
The rain and storms are expected to be more widespread starting in the afternoon hours.
The family members were standing under an umbrella during a thunderstorm, a bystander said.
