Bush Adviser Leaves GOP Over Trump

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - Sally Bradshaw, a top adviser to former Gov. Jeb Bush's presidential campaign, has switched from a registered Republican to an independent and will not vote for Donald Trump.

In an email, Bradshaw told CNN that the Republicans are "at a crossroads and have nominated a total narcissist, a misogynist, a bigot." She said she would vote for Hillary Clinton if the election is close in Florida.

Bradshaw cited Trump's criticism of the family of a Muslim-American soldier who was killed in Iraq in 2004.

"Donald Trump belittled a woman who gave birth to a son who died fighting for the United States. If anything, that reinforced my decision to become an independent voter," she said.

Bradshaw is a longtime GOP loyalist who began her political career in 1988 working for George H.W. Bush's 1988 presidential campaign. Her decision follows Jeb Bush's announcement in May that he would not vote for Trump or Clinton in this year's election.
