CBS 2 photojournalist Scott Placko captured the aftermath of the storm damage on south suburban Hodgkins on Wednesday as much of the Chicago area was under tornado warnings.
When firefighters arrived, they found primary power lines down on and adjacent to the home. They had to wait for ComEd before they could safely enter to put out the fire.
Storms caused flooding and a tree to snap in half, damaging multiple homes and cars.
Sixteen tornadoes, including three EF-2 tornadoes, were confirmed.
