Heavy flames and smoke poured from an apartment building in Cicero Friday morning. Firefighters responded to the large fire at a three-story building on 16th Street and 59th Court around 1:30 a.m. According to the Cicero fire chief, the fire started in the basement.
"This is one of the fires where you walk through and expect to see somebody very seriously injured and we are very fortunate that did not happen today."
The fire started on the second floor, and spread quickly – trapping residents in their units. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.
CBS 2's Noel Brennan reports as windows are being boarded up, water used to douse the flames is still dripping from the ceilings, and as bad as this fire was, everyone escaped with their lives.

But with help from the community, and the determination to keep the tradition alive, the Chicago ridge family behind the display is rebounding just in time for Christmas. CBS 2's Andrew Ramos reports.

The victims have been identified as William S. Davis, 52, and Chelsi A. Bates, 31, both of Arkansas.

A fire broke out inside a two-story apartment building near Van Buren and Kilpatrick in the Austin neighborhood just before 7 a.m.

Chicago police and firefighters arrived at the 8900 block of South Essex Avenue just before midnight where flames were seen coming from the garage.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was found inside the garage and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The fire left charred remains of the home and appeared to have spread to two other houses.
It happened just before 6 a.m. near 59th and Winchester.
"There wasn't a mention of any violations. The place is very clean. I have been in that place two or three times before."
