Plumber Working On Furnace Dies After New Braintree House Explosion

NEW BRAINTREE (CBS) -- A 67-year-old plumber who was working in a New Braintree home when it exploded last Wednesday has died.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports that Roger Charpentier, of Brookfield, died of injuries suffered in the house explosion on Wine Road. He was installing a new propane-fueled furnace at the time, the state fire marshal said.

Charpentier was medflighted to a Boston hospital after the explosion. No one else was home at the time of the explosion.

"Preliminary findings by investigators lead them to believe the explosion was caused when leaking propane was ignited by the hot water heater pilot," State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said in a statement.

The house is inhabitable and might be a total loss, according to The Telegram.
