A missing hiker from Massachusetts was found dead by a search team on a Franconia Notch trail in New Hampshire's White Mountains on Tuesday, officials said. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department identified the man as 61-year-old Kent Wood of West Roxbury.

Wood started hiking Saturday morning at the Lafayette Campground in Lincoln "with warm temperatures and clear skies," the department said. His family contacted authorities on Tuesday morning after not hearing from Wood for two days.

"While gathering information on where to search, rescuers learned that Kent was prepared for warmer conditions and not the 3-5 inches of snow that had fallen between Sunday and Monday in the Franconia Notch area," the department said.

A search for Wood began Tuesday morning in the Lonesome Lake and Kinsman Pond area, with an Army National Guard helicopter assisting. Conservation officers found Wood dead that evening, about 5.5 miles from his car on a remote section of the Kinsman Pond Trail.

"New Hampshire Fish and Game would like to remind hikers that it's still winter in the mountains with deep snow, cold and freeing temperatures," the department said.

Last Friday, three hikers from Haverhill, Massachusetts in their early 20s had to be rescued from Falling Waters Trail because they didn't have appropriate clothing for the weather, the department said.

And on Saturday, two teenagers from Plymouth were saved from the summit of Mount Washington by state park employees after one of them suffered a leg injury.

A new study finds that a simple blood test could predict Alzheimer's disease long before symptoms appear.

Harvard University-affiliated researchers at Mass General Brigham in Boston say that the test for pTau217, an amyloid protein that build plaques in the brain linked to Alzheimer's, "has the potential to predict progression of the illness years before symptoms or brain scan changes."

A blood test is much simpler than a spinal tap or PET scan, researchers said.

"We used to think that PET scan detection was the earliest sign of Alzheimer's disease progression, revealing amyloid accumulation in the brain 10 to 20 years before symptoms appear," lead study author Hyun-Sik Yang, a Harvard Medical School assistant professor of neurology, said in a statement. "But now we are seeing that pTau217 can be detected years earlier, well before clear abnormalities appear on amyloid PET scans."

Last year, the Food and Drug Administration gave marketing approval to the first blood test to help doctors diagnose Alzheimer's in some patients.

The Harvard study followed 317 adults with healthy brains who were between 50 and 90 years old. Participants underwent blood tests for pTau217, as well as PET scans and cognitive testing.

"Researchers found that higher levels of pTau217 predicted a faster buildup of Alzheimer's disease pathology, even when initial brain scans appeared normal," Mass General Brigham said.

The researchers aren't recommending this blood test for all older adults yet, but they hope it could one day be used for "routine health maintenance."

"By anticipating who's going to turn amyloid-positive in the future, we are trying to push back the clock to enable earlier Alzheimer's disease prediction," Mass General Brigham neurologist Dr. Jasmeer Chhatwal said.

Last year, a Harvard Medical School study found that lithium could one day help treat Alzheimer's.

A mother and her three-year-old daughter were among the thousands cheering for the Boston Marathon runners on Boylston Street on Monday, but a beloved stuffed animal was lost in the crowd.

Katie Pedrick and her daughter Daisy looked around the area for hours, retracing their steps in the hope of finding the stuffed toy, but no luck. Pedrick, fearing the worst, turned to social media for help.

"My three-year-old lost her favorite stuffy at the Boston Marathon today," Pedrick said in the post. "Her name is Sarah and we would really, really love her back."

The video quickly gained thousands of views, but no one had seen any sign of the stuffed animal. Pedrick then called CBS News Boston, hoping someone knew someone who may be around the finish line late at night.
There have been four violent attacks in three weeks at Tewksbury Hospital and a state representative is taking the fight to Beacon Hill to give security the non-lethal equipment back.

Representative David Robertson (D) is planning to file a bill to amend the budget after the Department of Public Health removed pepper spray, handcuffs, and rubber batons from the security staff at Tewksbury State Hospital weeks ago. The department said the equipment was not conducive to a therapeutic environment.

The hospital has seen a large amount of violence in recent weeks, with the latest incident happening Monday night. A patient allegedly assaulted another patient with scissors. Then last week, a visitor allegedly pushed a chair into a pregnant staff member, and in a separate case, a woman threw a trash can into a window. Staff said that waiting for the police to arrive to help puts them at risk. Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus called the decision "negligent."

The I-Team has been reporting on increasing violence at the hospital since 2021. Tewksbury police and fire say they respond to more than 600 calls a year at the hospital. In 2025, the state implemented changes, outfitting security with non-lethal equipment after a review of safety concerns and an internal investigation.

Wendy Buote is a registered nurse at the hospital. She said, 'staff are getting punched in the face they are getting hurt they're getting knocked out. But if I'm being attacked, public safety cannot even put hands on. It's not even the pepper spray; they cannot intervene. Every day that I walk in there I'm afraid for my patients, my staff."

Roberton said that he is "not surprised that there was another incident. This was all extremely predictable."

The string of violence was the topic of discussion at the Tewksbury town selectboard meeting, where frustrated local leaders, staff, and residents are placing the blame for the escalating violence on Governor Healey and her administration.

Jomarie Buckley sits on the board of trustees for Tewksbury State Hospital and she explained that the Department of Health, the Department of Mental Health, and the Governor's Office are the people who made this situation.

She told the selectboard that dozens of hospitals allow their security staff to carry pepper gel, including Boston Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconess. Buckley security staff at the state hospital should also have the equipment.

Robertson tells the I-Team the situation could easily be resolved if the governor simply tells the DPH commissioner to reverse the decision.

Meantime, Robertson says he has filed legislation to have the state build a new building or new wing designed to contain and reduce the incidents, remove the campus security police from the Department of Public Health and move them to the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. He has also amended the budget to include a provision that would create a law and immediately restore the equipment to security officers.

The iTeam reached out to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services for comment who said that "The safety of patients, staff and the Tewksbury community is our top priority."

"We have been in ongoing discussions with town and public safety officials, Tewksbury State Hospital leaders, and unions regarding security policies, including making sure that staff have an appropriate range of tools available to keep themselves and others safe. We have made important progress over the past few days and believe we are on a productive path to address concerns and ensure the safety of all," an EOHHS spokesperson said.

A former doctor at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston has been indicted on 81 new sexual assault charges, prosecutors announced Tuesday. Dr. Derrick Todd, a rheumatologist, was already facing rape and assault charges in Middlesex County and had been sued by dozens of former patients.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the new charges stem from accusations made by 22 victims between 17 and 56 years old. Todd faces 21 new rape charges, 59 new counts of indecent assault and battery and one count of assault with intent to rape.

"Many of these women had complicated and gravely serious symptoms and conditions. Some were in excruciating pain. Many were desperate for relief," Hayden said. "Dr. Todd intently groomed them all into quiet submission."

With the latest indictments, Todd is now facing more than 100 charges of sexual assault in Massachusetts.

"Almost unimaginable"

The alleged assaults occurred between 2017 and 2023 at Brigham and Women's Hale Building in Boston and the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Hayden said it's "almost unimaginable" how Todd was able to violate and betray patients' trust.

"The scale of victimization and the magnitude of trauma left in the wake of these allegations is something we have never encountered," Hayden said.

WBZ-TV has reached out to Todd's lawyer for comment. He could be arraigned in court on the new charges this week, Hayden said.

Charges against Dr. Derrick Todd

Brigham and Women's fired Todd in 2023 following accusations that he performed inappropriate pelvic and breast exams on his patients. The I-Team reported at the time that police were investigating more than a dozen complaints of sex assault against Todd by his female patients.

In January of 2025, Todd pleaded not guilty in Middlesex Superior Court to rape charges involving two of his former patients at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham.

Last month, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said a grand jury indicted Todd on three new charges of rape and 17 counts of indecent assault and battery.

Students enrolled at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee are learning the unmistakable style of Bob Fosse. The work is part of a five-year partnership with The Verdon Fosse Legacy, founded by Gwen Verdon and Bobbe Fosse's daughter, Nicole.

The Legacy works to preserve the groundbreaking work of the dance legends.

Tommy Neblett, the Dean of Dance, explained the choreography involves "lots of hips, lots of shoulders, lots of Internal movements. It's very subtle, but it's incredibly powerful."

Both commercial and contemporary dance majors at the school are learning the intricate movement, thanks to reconstructionist Alyssa Epstein and Mimi Quillin.

Quillen explained, "It really is movement that you have to use your acting chops in order to do properly," with Epstein adding, "We always want to create these beautiful shapes. It's not just about steps. It's about how high you can kick your leg or how many turns you can do. It's about creating really beautiful images that will create an emotion in someone."

Neblett said that the young performers jumped at the chance to learn.

"Students are thrilled and excited beyond belief that they get to do this, because very few people get to do Fosse anymore," Neblett.

Senior contemporary dance major Chloe Waser is taking it all in.

"This is absolutely my dream come true. I worked with the Verdon Fosse Legacy two summers ago. I trained with them for six weeks in their professional training program," Waser said.

There are about 20 students participating in the spring residency.

"They're such hard workers," said Epstein. "I remember I can see myself in them being in the studio and wanting it and wanting to learn it and just absorb as much as I can. So it makes my job so much easier when there are such willing participants and so incredibly talented. "

Quillin and Epstein know that honoring the past, while looking towards the future, goes beyond Verdon and Fosse's dance steps.

"The way they worked is most important," explained Quillin. "And that it goes forward into making more choreography because we can't keep reaching back. We can reach back for information, but we want to go forward."

"Because performing this work is incredibly special and not everybody gets the opportunity to do it. And I think it's rare sometimes that you feel you can be authentically yourself on stage," said Epstein.

Wasser told WBZ-TV, "I hope I have the opportunity to keep experiencing it and dancing it and loving it forever."

You can see the Fosse performance by the contemporary dance students at "Limitless," the spring dance concert at the Boston Conservatory Theater, April 23rd through the 26th.

The zoo made safety upgrades in the years that followed.

Little Joe is a western lowland gorilla, which is a critically endangered species that is threatened in the wild by disease and poaching, as well as logging and mining practices, the zoo said.

"This news is bittersweet to share as we will all miss Little Joe, but we are also excited for this opportunity for him to lead his own troop and start a family, which is important for the preservation of the species," Zoo New England president and CEO Stephanie Brinley said in a statement.

Little Joe will leave Boston sometime in the coming months. As part of the breeding program, he will be replaced by two young gorillas in the spring. One of them is an 8-year-old named Moke that is currently at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Later in the year, a male silverback gorilla will come to Boston from another zoo.

The two young gorillas will join a 5-year-old at Franklin Park Zoo named Pablo to form a "bachelor group," the zoo said.

"Pablo is reaching the age where he will be testing his family and pushing boundaries more," assistant curator Erica Farrell said. "We hope that Pablo will bond with his new bachelor troop members while they are still young and develop relationships that will help them grow together through their teenage years, and beyond."

More than 76 years ago, a research team from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution was working in the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda when they lowered a microphone into the ocean. What they recorded that day would sit quietly in storage for decades.

At the time, no one knew exactly what they were hearing. The audio was etched onto a thin plastic disk using equipment originally designed for office dictation, labeled simply "fish noises," and filed away in the archives.

Dr. Ashley Jester, who oversees these archives now, said the recordings were easy to miss. They were buried in boxes, very nondescript with their labels. Then researchers gave a modern listen to an old mystery. What Jester heard was not fish. It was a humpback whale.

"I hit play on that WAV file and it was goosebumps. The recording starts, and the voice comes on, and he says 'It's the 7th of March, 1949, a little note about the hydrophone, and then you hear the plop. And then right there is the song. I'm getting goosebumps right now thinking about it," Jester said.

Scientists now believe it could be the oldest recorded whale song ever discovered.

Whale recording from 1940s

The find is remarkable not only because of its age, but because it offers a rare snapshot of what the ocean may have sounded like in the late 1940s.

Back then, underwater recording required bulky equipment, long cables, and systems researchers often built themselves. Today, that technology can fit in the palm of your hand.

Dr. Laela Sayigh, a marine bioacoustics researcher at Woods Hole, said modern hydrophones can record for days at a time using compact digital devices.

But for scientists, this historic recording may be most valuable for what it does not contain.

"To potentially be able to look at the levels of ambient noise, which almost certainly would be much, much lower. Because now, you can hear shipping traffic, seismic exploration," Sayigh said.

Why noise pollution matters

In other words, the ocean is not as quiet as it once was. That matters because whales and other marine mammals depend on sound the way humans depend on sight.

"Considering noise as a pollutant is something that has only kind of recently gotten a lot of attention, but marine mammals as a group really rely on sound. It's their essential mode. It's as important to them as vision is to us," Sayigh said.

Sound helps whales communicate, navigate, find food, and survive. As human activity increases underwater noise, researchers say those natural behaviors may be changing.

And this discovery may be only the beginning.

"There are 212 discs in the collection. So we probably have at least 200 hours of underwater recording," Jester said.

Hundreds of hours of forgotten sound may now help scientists better understand how ocean life, and the ocean itself, has changed over time.

According to court documents released Tuesday, Plitouke had been arrested in Dudley on April 3, eight days before the deadly crash. Dudley police said they found her "unresponsive" behind the wheel of her car in the middle of Center Road at 9:35 p.m. She was charged with OUI drugs, possession of fentanyl and crack cocaine, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. She was arraigned on April 6 and released on a promise to return to court.

Five days later, on April 11, Webster police said she was speeding on School Street when she hit Guevera, who was a fourth grade student at Park Avenue Elementary School.

According to the police report, Plitouke told officers "a child ran out in front of her car coming from the sidewalk" and that "she wasn't able to stop in time, and the child went right into the air."

Officers said she told them "after the impact, the child rolled off of her vehicle and into the roadway."

She told police she was driving 20-to-25 miles per hour, but police said "mathematical equations" using the evidence showed she was going about 41 mph in a 30-mph zone. If she was driving at the speed limit, police said she would have been able to stop her car about 57 feet before impact.

"Ms. Plitouke's speed was a major factor in this crash," police said in their report.

"She was going 11 miles over the speed limit at best. No alcohol, no drugs, no texting, no changing the radio. It was an accident, she feels terrible about what happened. I think at the end of this the court will find she that did nothing criminal," defense attorney Robert Lacovelli said.

Plitouke was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail at her arraignment. If she posts bail, she's required to stay drug and alcohol free and she's not allowed to drive. She will return to court on June 4.

Remembering Marleigh Guevara

"I want justice for my baby. She didn't deserve this," Marleigh's mother, Heather Pereira, told reporters outside court Tuesday. Pereira said she is struggling to live in her home following the death of her daughter.

"It's traumatizing to even drive up the street," Pereira explained.

"We all said we don't have hate towards nobody and my daughter would be saying something like that. I'm okay. As a father I can't say the same. I'm broken," said Marleigh's father Rafael Guevars. "I love her to death. This is my child. It wasn't supposed to be like this."

The community has created a memorial outside of Marleigh's home, full of flowers, candles, and remembrance. Pereira and Guevars said that their daughter was a light to the world.

"She was always happy, always making jokes, always curious. She loved to be outside, riding her bike, riding her rollerskates," Pereira said.

Webster, Massachusetts is about 58 miles southwest of Boston.

Seventeen people were charged in connection with a massive street takeover in Randolph, Massachusetts, police announced on Tuesday. A police dash camera was rolling as the crowd swarmed the cruiser and threw fireworks in the street during the October incident.

It happened on October 5 at the intersection of North Main and Oak streets. Randolph police said drivers blocked off the street in order to perform stunts, drifting maneuvers and donuts.

The first arriving officer's cruiser was surrounded by about 100 people, preventing him from intervening.

"Individuals were observed swarming the vehicle, striking it and blocking its path while fireworks were ignited both on top of the cruiser and nearby in the street," police said.

One Randolph business owner spoke to WBZ-TV about the night of the incident.

"I thought the world was ending," said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous. "There was smoke, screaming, and car tires screeching."

Randolph street takeover arrests

In the months that followed, police said they launched an extensive investigation. They reviewed dash camera footage, surveillance cameras from nearby businesses, and social media posts.

Police recovered messages from Instagram accounts belonging to people allegedly connected to the street takeover. In the messages, participants allegedly shared locations and instructions, encouraging spectators to block police.

All 17 people were charged in Quincy District Court with offenses that include conspiracy, interfering with a police officer, disorderly conduct, operating to endanger, and number plate violations. Warrants were issued for some of the individuals, and summonses for others. Several people are scheduled to be in Quincy District Court on Wednesday.

Randolph police said they believe many of those involved traveled together and were involved in multiple Massachusetts takeovers during the same night. About 45 minutes after the Randolph incident, a Boston police cruiser was set on fire.

17 people charged

William Cantwell, 19, from Warwick, Rhode Island was one of two people arrested for the Boston incident. He is also among the 17 people charged in Randolph.

The regional investigation remains open, Randoph police said.

In addition to Cantwell, also charged are:

Divine Truth Norris Niles, 23, Roxbury

Nazeem Vincent McLeod, 20, Worcester

Casey Rondeau, 23, Farmington, Maine

Jordan Ryan, 19, Exeter, R.I.

Nahom Daniel Brook, 23, Boston

Dylan Lee Jordan, 19, Gilmanton, New Hampshire

Nathaniel Jaymoni Urbaez, 22, Dedham

Jaden Williams, 23, Putnam, Connecticut

C. They are coming to our community to make it unsafe, and it's not fair to our community members," Randolph Police Chief Anthony Marag said. "Social media is a powerful thing. You have these organized groups who coordinate these efforts, and you see New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut who we are charging."

With just over 50 days to go until the World Cup in Boston, officials on Tuesday defended transportation costs for the event, opened the door to allowing tailgating at Gillette Stadium before matches and shared more details about the FIFA Fan Festival coming to the city.

Boston World Cup

Gillette Stadium is being transformed into "Boston Stadium" to host seven World Cup matches between June 13 and July 9. The countries confirmed to playing in Boston are Haiti, Scotland, Iraq, Norway, Morocco, England, Ghana and France.

With parking at Gillette limited to 5,000 spaces per match, fans are being encouraged to take mass transit to Foxboro. Bus tickets on the "Boston Stadium Express" from Logan Airport and hotels around the region will be even more expensive at $95.

Politicians in New York and New Jersey have taken issue with the high transit costs for World Cup fans. But Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll said at the news conference in Boston Tuesday that taking the MBTA will be "one of the more affordable ways to get to Foxboro."

"There are other destinations where their stadiums is in the heart of a city that has a lot of public transportation already going to it. You all know where Boston Stadium in Foxboro is located, it's a little bit more on the outskirts," she said. "The cost of parking, the costs of buses to that facility have to be borne and take on some of the costs of providing those services, that's why it's a little bit higher."

Will tailgating be allowed at Gillette for the World Cup?

The official website for Boston's FIFA World Cup Host Committee says "traditional 'tailgating' (eating and drinking around parked cars) is not permitted for these events."

"We accepted that probably without as much interrogation as we should have," Boston Host Committee President Mike Loynd said Tuesday.

He said there will be more conversations over the next week with World Cup organizers around tailgating, and said "I think we'll come to a good conclusion."

"The stadium certainly wants to make sure that the experience is very much like it is for a Patriots game when it comes to that," he said.

Boston FIFA Fan Festival

Until now, little has been shared about the Boston fan festival other than it will take place on City Hall Plaza.

In addition to showing two to three matches per day on big screens, Loynd said the 16-day event will be free and feature food vendors and a "cultural showcase" of community events. "He failed to carry his burden."

The board suspended Demoulas, known as "Artie T" by loyal customers and employees, back in May 2025, saying there were credible allegations that he was planning a work stoppage. A spokesperson for Demoulas said at the time that board's investigation was "a farcical cover for a hostile takeover."

The 126-page ruling details the decades-long family struggle for power at the New England supermarket chain. The judge does not dispute that Demoulas ran a successful business, but says the board had reason to believe that his "longstanding resistance to board oversight, imperious manner, and refusal to compromise with his sisters threatened the company."

The judge said that Demoulas took a "passive-aggressive stance" with the board when they made specific requests for information about the Market Basket finances, and "the boardroom environment became toxic.

The judge also wrote that the board members believed "in good faith" that Demoulas might be planning a repeat of the 2014 Market Basket boycott that occurred after he was first fired by his cousin known as "Arthur S."

"They rationally feared that Arthur felt cornered and would run the same play in 2025," the judge wrote. "Each testified credibly to believing that Arthur was behind the 2014 walkout and that he would try it again."

In a statement to WBZ-TV, Demoulas's spokesperson Justine Griffin said he knew "there were high hurdles given the broad latitude Delaware courts give to Boards of Directors."

"Market Basket is an incredible success by every measure," the statement said. "As his father before him, the late Telemachus A. Demoulas, Arthur T. has devoted his entire working life to building and growing Market Basket in a way that has brought benefit to all stakeholders – its Associates, its customers, the communities that Market Basket serves, and its shareholders."

Don Mulligan, the company's chief financial officer for 26 years, was named interim CEO in September. Earlier this year, a ranking said Market Basket was the second-best grocery store chain in the country.

The Board of Directors issued this statement Monday.

"With this behind us, we're looking forward to continuing to focus on everything that makes Market Basket so important to our communities. As the Board has said repeatedly, the Company is not for sale. Market Basket will continue to be a family-owned and operated business, offering the lowest prices and best value for customers, creating good jobs with profit sharing for associates, and supporting its customers and communities—well into the future. We're excited about all of that," the board said.

"The Board thanks Mr. Demoulas for his many years of service and anticipates working with him productively into the future as one of the company's important shareholders."

Runners who had just crossed the Boston Marathon finish line in Copley Square shared the reasons why they participated in the iconic race.

"It's such an honor to race," said New Hampshire runner Jane Palangas.

"I am running for those who can't run," Chad Toscano from Salem, New Hampshire said.

Raising money for charity

Thousands of people who run the marathon use the race to raise money for charities like Brunna Alves, who raised $12,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in her second Boston Marathon.

"A few people I know unfortunately passed due to different types of cancers. It is just my way to give back to them and their families," Alves said. "[The Boston Marathon] is amazing."

Dr. Tim Schindler, a neonatologist from Sydney, Australia raised money and awareness for premature babies.

"Not everyone knows about what these babies go through, how difficult it is for them, and not all of them make it. We need all the help that we can get to look after them, give them the best chance at life," Dr. Schindler said.

Jason Booher, 51, highlighted the consequences of drinking and driving. Booher survived a deadly bus crash in 1998 that claimed the lives of dozens of people after a drunk driver hit the bus. Booher lost his best friend in the tragedy.

"27 people didn't make it out of the bus and it just so happens, marathons are 26.2, so every mile is dedicated to one of those that didn't make it out," he said

Coach Ryan Calan, 36, from Arizona, chose to run on behalf of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.

"I wanted to carry Old Glory all the way through for the people who are serving our country or have served our country. Just everyone out there, firefighters and police departments are so grateful for you guys," Calan shared.

Reclaiming the Boston Marathon after 2013

Many runners were present the day the bombs went off at the finish line in 2013 and have made an effort to reclaim the marathon from the tragedy.

"I had a guardian angel that day. I had a cramp at Cleveland Circle that made me stop for five minutes," 71-year-old Michael Brummer said. He explained he will run the marathon for as long as he is able. "I have run all over the United States. Nothing compares to this."

Running the major marathons

While some runners are on their way to completing the seven major marathons, London, Tokyo, Boston, New York, Berlin, Chicago, and Sydney. Mary and Mat Clothier just completed their fourth major marathon and will be flying home to run the London Marathon in just six days.

"I am feeling not too bad. He is feeling ruined," Mary Clothier explained. "We made the classic Boston error and went off way too quick."

Mat agreed, "I am feeling ruined."

Crossing the finish line together

Best friends Sydney and Caroline crossed the finish line together, excited to be reunited with family, having just received their medals.

"I am super proud of us," they shared. "It was wonderful, really hard."

Emma Pratt, from Dedham, crossed the finish line of her first Boston Marathon alongside her fiancé Nate Usage.

"Running brought us together," Usage shared. "It's something we leaned into in the last couple of years."

"It brought us closer," Pratt said. "We push each other."

Two Plymouth, Massachusetts teens were saved from the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire after one of them ended up with a leg injury.

Khang Nguyen,17, said he and his friend, 18-year-old Vaughn Webb, thought they were well prepared for their hike on Saturday. They brought trekking poles, layers, microspikes for their boots and more.

But halfway up the trail, Nguyen feared the worst when his leg began to hurt.

"It was just incredibly painful to lift up my right leg," he explained. "I told [Vaughn] to leave me behind so I could go on my own pace and for him to reach the summit to get help at first."

The pair managed to reach the top of the mountain but had to seek shelter next to a building as wind gusts increased, and the air temperature reached 38 degrees. Nguyen said they also ran out of food and water. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department received the 911 call around 7:30 p.m. and quickly alerted a State Park employee who began to search for the two teens.

"Conservation Officers then began responding in four-wheel-drive pickup trucks to try and get to the summit and back ahead of incoming snow," the game department said in a statement.

After about 30 minutes of searching both Webb and Nguyen were found. They were taken inside a building and Nguyen was treated for his injury.

"The worker that was up there, [said] that they came in record time, and we appreciate their help a lot. It saved our lives potentially," Nguyen explained.

The pair was successfully taken off the mountain by 10 p.m. The two teens are now safely back in Massachusetts and are incredibly grateful to their rescuers.

While the average price of gas is down 1 cent over the past week in Massachusetts, diesel prices remain significantly higher, having surged more than 50% since the start of the war with Iran.

At a family-owned farm in Billerica, longtime farmer Bill Griggs said the spike is adding uncertainty to his operation as tensions in the Middle East drive up fuel costs. Griggs relies on diesel to fuel tractors and heat greenhouses, both essential to keeping his business running. But he said recent deliveries have come at a steep price.

"I'm assuming when I ask them to fill my diesel tank, it's going to be expensive," Griggs said, pointing to his latest bill in April, which was hundreds of dollars more than the month before.

The uncertainty in the Strait of Hormuz is also affecting supply chains. Griggs said he is still waiting on fertilizer shipments, which will also come at a steeper cost.

"That's a big part of the world's food supply, people are missing," he said.

Ultimately, he said, those rising costs are passed down to consumers.

"It all adds up, you cannot avoid that," Griggs added.

Researchers at Brown University have launched an energy cost tracker showing the financial toll since the start of the war in Iran. According to the data, household energy costs have climbed to more than $160 per U.S. household.

"That's money out of everyday Americans' pockets," said Brown professor Jeff Colgan.

Colgan said diesel prices affect nearly every part of the economy.

"Whether it's from Amazon or from a grocery store, or everything gets touched by diesel prices because diesel is the fuel by which all of the goods in our economy really get shipped around," Colgan added.

"It takes a while before higher diesel prices really trickle all the way to the supermarket shelf. So we're in for some additional pain in terms of pricing as a result," said Mark Schieldrop, AAA Northeast Senior Spokesperson.

Experts say even if the conflict were resolved immediately, it could still take weeks before diesel prices begin to come down, if they do at all.

"Right now it's a lot of uncertainty. If the war ends, we'll start to see some more certainty, and one possibility is higher prices as the world comes back from this major event," added Schieldrop.

America wouldn't be America without it, but how often do you think about how the U.S. Constitution plays a role in your daily life?

"What the Constitution Means to Me" looks at the impact the document has on four generations of women in the same family. The play, now at the Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham, is framed as a bit of a memoir.

Actor Janice Hudson said, "Some people might think it's this sort of academic journey through policy and clauses of the Constitution, but it is absolutely not that."

Hudson stars as the playwright of "What the Constitution Means to Me," Heidi Schrek.

The ever-evolving piece takes a close look at the document and imagines how it could shape the next generation.

"As things pass and change," Hudson explained, "We are updating the script actively to reflect what's happening in real time, which I think is very cool."

Director A. Nora Long added, "Studying history, studying our political documents is a great way to see not only how far we've come, but how far yet we have to go. I think a lot of people are surprised to learn, for example, that women are not in the Constitution at all. And I think, the Constitution in a lot of ways is a real deep dive into American history, who historically has been a person, who gets to be a person and why."

"At a macro level, it trickles down into our daily lives in ways that some of us probably don't even realize. And I think that's what Heidi's trying to do is get us to think about this very old document that is very much still alive and functioning in today's world," Hudson said.

At age 15, Heidi earned her college tuition by winning constitutional debate competitions across the United States. That experience is echoed in the theater.

"We actually do a live debate in front of the audience about whether or not we should keep or abolish the United States Constitution," said Hudson. "The audience gets to be the judge. It's a good time."

"I think we all have a newfound appreciation for a thoughtful exchange of ideas. I hope it allows us to engage our differences while recognizing our common humanity," Long said.

You can see "What the Constitution Means to Me" at the Greater Boston Stage in Stoneham through April 26th.

A Waltham family was shocked when their new furry neighbor visited their backyard twice in a month. The bear's shenanigans were caught on the home's Ring camera.

"He must be getting used to it, or lives near here so my alert is up. There is fear," said Casey Devito, who has had a front row seat to the bear outside of her slider door, "It's kind of a zoo for my kids to look out."

The bear first showed up on March 17. It walked around the side of their backyard to a deck on the side. I was like, 'Awe, he looks so friendly,' but obviously I wasn't going to go out there."

"He walked right up, silly me, I was making bird feeders with my kids, and the bear wandered up here. It was poking around and sniffing the bird seed and peanut butter," told Devito.

On April 19, the bear returned again to the deck, but did not walk onto it. Instead, just sniffing a few of Devito's kids' toys before walking past.

"I think that they are looking for food, and probably just from structures being built close by, being pushed out of their habitats to where we are living," said Devito.

Bears aren't a common sight in Waltham, but wildlife experts say many animals are starting to wake up from hibernation this month.

"In many cases, animals are having their babies right now, so they are looking for extra resources to feed their families," said Zak Mertz, CEO of New England Wildlife Center.

He's not surprised to see a bear return to the scene of food.

"You don't want to become a routine stop on their foraging, and they have incredible senses of smell," explained Mertz.

Experts say limiting bird feeders and outside pet food will help to see predators less.

"Let them gain the skills they need to survive on their own," encouraged Mertz.

It's strong advice because the Devito residence is becoming quite the buffet.

"We've had coyotes last night drinking out of the kids' water table," laughed Devito.

A military flyover is planned for today's running of the Boston Marathon.

One C-130 operated by the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut Air National Guard will depart Bradley Air National Guard Base and head toward Boston Monday morning, a marathon spokesperson tells WBZ-TV. The military transport aircraft will cross the starting line in Hopkinton at 9:55:30 a.m., which is just minutes before the first wave of runners begin at 10 a.m.

The C-130 will fly over the entire course in about six minutes.

Flyovers always depend on the weather cooperating.
It's time for the 2026 Boston Marathon on Monday, with this year serving as the 130th running of the signature race. Many roads through several Massachusetts communities will be closed along the 26.2 mile route, with a large number of parking restrictions in place as well.

You can find complete coverage of the Boston Marathon throughout the day, including information on the winners, and how to track your favorite runners.

When do roads reopen after the Boston marathon?

The timing of closures and when roads reopen varies from town-to-town. Below is a closer look at road closures for Patriots' Day throughout the Boston Marathon course.

Hopkinton road closures

The Boston Marathon gets underway at the starting line in Hopkinton. All roads in that area, along with Hopkinton Town Common, will close at 6:30 a.m. on Monday. Police will close Main Street, Ash Street, Park Street, and Hayden Rowe at that time.

A short time later at 7 a.m., roads that lead to the downtown area will be closed to vehicles. Roads leading to downtown will be blocked off in the following areas:

West Main Street at Lumber Street

Wood Street at Elm Street

Hayden Rowe Street at Chestnut

Ash Street at Blueberry Lane

Cedar Street at Legacy Farms North

East Main Street at every intersection

Any roads that are adjacent to where runners, spectators, volunteers or workers are located will also be blocked.

Ashland road closures

Road closures are scheduled in Ashland for the area of Route 135 from 6:15 a.m.-1:20 p.m.

Framingham road closures

Route 135 in Framingham will also be closed from about 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Natick road closures

About four miles of the course stretches through Natick. As a result, Route 135 will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until around 2:30 p.m.

Wellesley road closures

The Boston Marathon route runs right through the center of Wellesley about halfway through the race, entering town on Route 135 at the Natick line near Wellesley College. That's where you can find the signature "scream tunnel".

Roads will close at 8:30 a.m. and will remain closed until the end of the race. That is expected to be around 3:30 p.m.

Route 135 will be closed from the Natick line to Grove Street. Route 16 will be closed from Grove Street to the Newton line.

Police said that any vehicle parked in lots along the route will not be allowed to leave until the road is back open.

Newton road closures

Newton police will be closing a long list of roads from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. to accommodate the marathon.

Marathon route:

Washington Street from the Wellesley line to Auburn Street

Commonwealth Ave. from Auburn Street to the Boston line

Commonwealth Ave. Carriage Lane from Washington Street to the Boston line

All feeder streets along the marathon route will be closed 60 feet back from the course

Secondary roads:

Beacon Street from Washington Street to Dorset Road

Beacon Street Extension (North of Washington Street)

Beacon Street from Hammond Street to Boston line (Residents only)

Centre Street from Homer Street to Ward Street

Chestnut Street from Beacon Street to Highland Street (Residents only)

College Road from Beacon Street to Commonwealth Ave.

Concord Street from Hagar to Washington Street

Evelyn Road from 192 Evelyn Road to Fuller Street

Fuller Street from Day Street to Evelyn Road (Residents only)

Grant Ave from Beacon Street to Ward Street (Residents only)

Grove Street from Washington to Moulton Street

Hammond Street from Ward to Hammondswood Road

Helene Road/ Cotter Road from Paulson to Fuller

Homer Street rom Commonwealth Ave. to Centre Street·

Lowell Ave. from Commonwealth Ave. to Hull Street (Residents only)

Old Colony Road from Priscilla to Commonwealth Ave.

Quinobequin Road from I-95 southbound ramp to Washington Street

Walnut Street from Horner Street to Mill Street (Residents only)

Ward Street from Hammond to Manet (Residents only)

Woodland Road from Cheswick Road to Washington Street

Brookline road closures

In Brookline, several roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Beacon Street

Chestnut Hill Ave at Clinton Road and Dean Road

Washington Street at Park Street

Harvard Street at Longwood Ave and Sewall Ave

Saint Paul Street at Longwood Ave

Sewall Ave at Marshall Street

Boston road closures

In Boston, roads won't just be closed on Marathon Monday. This will be his 28th Boston Marathon.

"In fact, I'm going to write a book and it's going to be called just 'Why?' Why would you do this every year? This is 28, don't know if this will be the last," Moon said.

Hasse came to Boston with six family members and friends

"My running journey started with just a challenge and it's taken me all over the world.
