The mosquito, named OX5034, was altered to produce female offspring that die in the larval stage, well before hatching and growing large enough to bite and spread disease.
Tests by an environmental advocacy group found trace amounts of glyphosate -- the active ingredient in Monsanto's weed killer Roundup -- in some oat-based cereal and snack bars.

A California jury on Friday ordered the maker of the popular weed killer Roundup to pay $289 million in damages to a school's groundskeeper who alleges Roundup caused his cancer.
"There is no medical evidence whatsoever that glyphosate causes cancer," said Monsanto Vice President Scott Partridge. "I regret that these plaintiff lawyers have pointed them in that direction."
Two protest rallies took place Saturday, one in Dallas and another in Fort Worth, against seed giant Monsanto. Protesters were a part of an international movement.
