Wildfire Risk Tomorrow Increasing
Our local Forecast Office has issued a RED FLAG WARNING for Sunday for our southern counties. Draw a line from Meridian to Corsicana and include all the counties south of that.
A FIRE WATCH is in effect tomorrow for the Metro area up to the Red River.
We'll wake up Sunday to a steady south wind veering to the southwest and picking up to 20-25mph by mid-morning. Temperatures will quickly get to 90 degrees by early afternoon. Wind gusts will get to 30mph as a cold front comes in from the north. That front will reach the metro area between noon and 1pm; the winds will quickly shift to the northwest and diminish to 10-15mph.
Since the front won't clear our southern counties to later in the day the stronger southwest winds all day will increase the fire danger.
This front will not produce any rain for us. The air is too dry which is part of the problem for the high fire risk; relative humidity will stay under 25% and get close to 15% during the afternoon hours.
