CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A Texas man has been extradited to New Jersey to face charges in the strangling death of his girlfriend in southern New Jersey nearly six years ago.

Timothy Simon was arraigned Thursday on murder charges in the 2010 death of 31-year-old Lawanda Strickland.

Strickland was found dead on a couch in the Camden home they shared. An autopsy found she was strangled.

Authorities charged Simon after prosecutors say DNA evidence in October connected him to the slaying. He had been awaiting trial on a charge of aggravated assault at the time of Strickland's death.

Investigators tracked the 47-year-old man to Houston and arrested him earlier this month. He as extradited on Wednesday.

Simon says he's planning to hire a lawyer. His bail was set at $1 million.
