North Texas rain chances increase through Halloween weekend

It has been a cloudy and warm day across North Texas.

A southeasterly wind has been pumping a sufficient amount of moisture into the area, resulting in Wednesday morning's dense fog, increased cloud cover, and chance of a late afternoon stray shower south of I-20.

Once the sunsets at 6:41 p.m., temperatures will dip into the 70s with a mild wind from the southeast around 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday morning will be warm with a low and a dew point temperature in the 60s. A stray shower is possible in the morning, but more activity will be expected by Thursday evening, especially to the west of I-35. This is due to a subtropical jet and remnant moisture from Vance, the tropical system that is currently in the eastern Pacific.

Thursday, expect the heaviest rain for counties west of I-35. More activity is likely on Friday, and even into Saturday afternoon, due to a shortwave.

Forecast models are timing the biggest rain event on Friday night. However, models are still somewhat inconsistent on the timing of the rain, especially on Saturday, which is Halloween.

As of now, there may be another round of rain on Saturday night that may impact trick-or-treaters.

The rain-cooled air and cloud cover should keep highs in the 70s on Friday and Halloween. The next fall front isn't expected until early next week; that's when the next cool down will be expected. Stay tuned because the forecast models are subject to change.
