A veteran police officer in Chicago was shot and killed Tuesday, when he joined officers trying to apprehend a fleeing suspect. Cmdr. Paul Bauer, 53, was a 31-year veteran of the force.

A memorial service was held Sunday for two police officers who were fatally shot in Westerville, Ohio.
Cops: Killer causes I-95 chaos
A man killed a woman and drove the wrong way Wednesday on I-95 in Florida, causing multiple crashes before he was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies. Witnesses describe the chaotic scene to WPEC-TV's Paul Meuller.
L.A. middle school shooting

An investigation is underway after a deputy was allegedly attacked by 16-year-old Joseph Haynes in a Columbus courtroom Wednesday and then opened fire, shooting Haynes in the abdomen and killing him.
6 killed in Colorado Springs shooting
Seven people, including a gunman, are dead after the suspect opened fire at a birthday party in Colorado Springs. Police say the man took his own life.
Colorado shooting
A gunman fired more than 100 rounds in a shootout with law enforcement in Colorado early Sunday. One deputy was killed and four others were wounded before the suspect was killed. Two civilians were also injured. The slain deputy was a 29-year-old father of two young children.
Long Beach shooting
Several people were shot Friday afternoon in Long Beach, California, police said. Long Beach police said the incident was over but didn't elaborate.

Colleen McKernan was arrested on New Year’s Eve 2014 for fatally shooting her husband Rob. This video includes footage from the surveillance cameras at the Massillon Police Department in Ohio following her arrest.
Baltimore police chase
Police pursued a suspect in a shooting through the streets of Baltimore Friday in a three-and-a-half mile, high-speed chase seen on CBS Baltimore news helicopter video. The suspect was taken into custody around noon.
