Temperatures in the Pittsburgh area could hit 70 degrees today for the first time this year.
Normally, we would have hit 70 already if you compare us with previous years. Last year we hit 70 for the first time on March 4. The year before that we did it on the February 9! Looking at stats, the last time it took us this long to hit 70 was in 2021 when we first hit the mark on March 24. The latest we have ever done it was in 1881 when it took us until April 24th to finally hit 70.
For today, we continue to have a warm air mass in place with 850mb temperatures showing 6°C. This is warm for this time of the year and it will fuel those highs to be well over average once again today. Yesterday we ended up just over 10 degrees above average for the day. We will be around 16 degrees warmer than average today. Expect temperatures to be VERY warm for the rest of the week compared to seasonal averages. Standout days include Friday and Saturday with highs well into the 70s both days.
Today will be a standout day due to probably being the last day of crystal clear skies. This along with a steady wind for most of the day coming in out of the southwest will push those highs up to around 70°. Noon temperatures should be in the mid-60s. It'll be the third day in a row, with our noon temperature being within a degree of the previous day's high temperature.
When it comes to rain, there will be a low rain chance returning to the area on Wednesday night into Thursday evening. Wednesday will see partly cloudy skies with morning lows near 40 and highs hitting the mid-60s. I have Thursday highs near 70.
Our next good chance to see rain comes on Saturday evening to Sunday morning with around half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain expected to fall.
