Man Fatally Shot In Wilkins Twp. House, 5 Kids, Multiple Pit Bulls Home At Time
WILKINS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A 32-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon in a home in Wilkins Township where children and several pit bulls, possibly being trained for dog fighting, were also found inside.
It happened at a home on Highland Avenue. Assistant Allegheny County Police Superintendent James Morton said two men, one white, the other black, walked into the house around 3 p.m.
One of them went to the basement with the victim, the two argued and shots were fired. The homeowner then ran upstairs and collapsed by the front door after yelling for someone to call 911.
"A black male and white male came to the house, went to the basement, had a short conversation with the victim and then the victim ran upstairs… there was two gunshots downstairs, he ran upstairs and yelled to one of the kids, 'Call 911,' in which they did," said Morton. "And then he died right at the front door of this residence."
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim as 32-year-old Jerit Love. An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday morning.
Police say five children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, ranging in age from 8 to 14. None of them were hurt.
Six pit bulls were also found tied up outside of the home, chained to trees. There were two more pit bulls inside the home, one of which was shot. The injured dog is expected to be okay.
Neighbors say the man owned as many as 10 pit bulls and trained them to fight.
Several other family members were also inside the home.
