Law enforcement fatally shoots man after vehicle pursuit in northern Michigan, police say
An investigation is underway after law enforcement fatally shot a 29-year-old man following a vehicle pursuit in Otsego County early Saturday, the Michigan State Police said.
According to investigators, troopers conducted a traffic stop on South Otsego Avenue near West Seventh Street in Gaylord, Michigan, around 1:35 a.m. At one point during the encounter, the driver fled the scene.
The vehicle was later found by an Otsego County Sheriff's Office deputy, who began the pursuit. According to state officials, the chase ended in Dover Township, Michigan, when the person driving the vehicle, later identified as the man, struck a Michigan State Police patrol car and then hit a tree.
Law enforcement shot the man, from Gaylord, after the collision, according to state officials. He died at the scene.
Officials said the deputy was not injured in the incident.
As of Saturday afternoon, no other details regarding the shooting have been released.
Dover Township in Otsego County is around 9 miles northeast of Gaylord.
