DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A woman is dead after a crash in Westmoreland County on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened a little after noon on Route 217 between Derry and Blairsville at Barkley Road. It shut the roadway down in both directions.

The coroner said 49-year-old Regina Endress was driving a Chevrolet Cruze north on Route 217 when she was hit by another vehicle traveling south in a head-on-type collision. She wasn't wearing a seatbelt, the coroner said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a 10-year-old passenger in Endress' vehicle who was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital. There's been no word on the condition of the child or the other driver involved.

The Blairsville Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as several Pennsylvania State Police units. A medical helicopter was also called after the crash.

It's unclear what led up to the crash.

Endress' cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy and further investigation into the collision, the coroner said.
