Get ready for Light Up Night. Plans revealed for Pittsburgh's annual holiday celebration.
Pittsburgh will once again kick off the holiday season with fireworks, festivities and plenty of tree lighting ceremonies.
The Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership on Thursday announced plans for the 64th annual Light Up Night, which is scheduled for Nov. 22, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The holiday season will officially kick off in Downtown Pittsburgh the day before, Nov. 21, when the Holiday Market opens at 11 a.m. Because of construction in Market Square, the chalets are moving to Seventh Street and Penn Avenue in the Cultural District.
Light Up Night is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. There will be two stages with live music, food vendors and, of course, an appearance from Santa.
The first of three rounds of fireworks will go off at 5 p.m. when the City-County Building's tree is lit. Next up is the tree at the center of the PPG Place ice skating rink, which will be lit at 6 p.m. There will be more fireworks at 7 p.m. when the Horne's tree is lit at the corner of Stanwix Street and Penn Avenue. Last but not least, the Sister Bridges will light up at 8 p.m. The night will end with a Zambelli fireworks finale at 9:30 p.m.
The Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership said it's ready to welcome thousands of visitors to the city for this year's holiday season.
"The holidays are an opportunity to build community and lay the foundation for the kind of welcoming environment that we want to instill here in Downtown Pittsburgh every single day," Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership president and CEO Jeremy Waldrup said.
