In September, Philadelphia city council voted to ban what are known as safe injection sites, a major blow for advocates who say these sites could help prevent deaths in the region.
As leaders in Philadelphia work to find solutions, there's disagreement over one proposal: safe injection sites. Jessica Kartalija reports the issue.
The bill creates a zoning rule in nine of Philadelphia's 10 city districts prohibiting the sites. But councilmembers claim there's still a path.
In a 14-1 vote, the council overrode Mayor Jim Kenney's veto and passed a bill that would effectively ban the facilities in the city.
City Council on Thursday passed legislation that would ban safe injection sites in some districts and recommended a blanket ban citywide.
