With Pope Gone, Road Crews Head Back To Work On Projects In Region

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the pope gone, road crews are back on area highways continuing work on several major projects in the Philadelphia region.

PennDOT's Gene Blaum says days before the pope arrived road work on area highways was suspended.

Now, the crews are heading back out and Blaum says drivers need to pay attention.

"On I-95 in the areas of the Girard Avenue interchange, Betsy Ross Bridge interchange and the Cottman Avenue interchange. Expansion of US 202 between Route 401 and the Route 30 bypass and the improvements that are being made on Route 422 and the interchange with Route 363."

Also, Blaum says the work continues on Route 422 between Sanatoga and the Berks County line.

And, before the end of this week, he says, crews will resume work on bridges over Route 676, the Vine Street Expressway.
