Fantastic weather Monday in Philadelphia area, tracking warmer temps and late-week storms

We're starting the week with fantastic weather in the Philadelphia area. Monday brings sunshine, low humidity and highs in the upper 80s, with a few spots near 90. This is right on target for early August in the area.

By Monday night, you can expect more clear skies, calm winds and lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

You may notice some haze from wildfire smoke on Monday, but it's most noticeable in Delaware, and will be a bit more widespread Tuesday and Wednesday close to the city.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued a code orange air quality alert for the entire state on Monday. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection also declared Monday a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ozone in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties.

Over in New Jersey, the Department of Environmental Protection has also issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for several counties in our area, including parts of Mercer, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Cumberland.

On days designated Code Orange, young kids, the elderly and anyone with respiratory problems, including asthma, emphysema and bronchitis, are more vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and are advised to limit their time outdoors.

Tuesday stays warm and dry, with highs near 90 and a bit more humidity under partly cloudy skies. Clouds will build Tuesday night as moisture moves in on an onshore flow.

By Wednesday, high pressure to our north keeps us mainly dry, but clouds increase from a system to our south. A few stray showers are possible late Wednesday into Thursday, mainly south and east of the city. Temperatures will dip into the upper 70s and low 80s on Thursday before rebounding into the mid-80s for Friday and the weekend.
