Mom, 2 Young Children Killed In Delaware City Fire

DELAWARE CITY, Del. (CBS) - Fire officials in Delaware are investigating a fire that claimed the lives of a mother and her two young children early Monday morning.

The deadly fire started at about 5 a.m. inside a home in the 100 block of Clinton Street in Delaware City.

The victim's family members say 19-year-old Teyonna Watts, 4-year-old Breyonna Jones, and 9-month-old Jordan Jones all died in the fire.

"I miss her so much, I just want my family back," said Travis Jones.

Jones, who says he's the father of the two little girls, arrived on the scene Monday afternoon and spoke to Eyewitness News about what happened.

Jones said his 9-month baby girl was taken to Christiana Hospital, but died one hour later.

"My daughter tried to fight, but she died right in my hands," said Jones.

The 25-year-old says he was at work when the fire started at about 5:50 a.m. He says he had plans to marry his long time girlfriend Teyonna and the mother of his only two children.

"We were a young couple just starting out," said Jones.

Officials say about 60 volunteer firefighters from Delaware City, Port Penn, Odessa and New Castle helped snuff out flames. It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

"We know it started somewhere on the first floor, but we don't know what caused it," said New Castle Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Alan Brown.

It remains under investigation.
