Man's Leg Amputated After Being Pinned Under Freight Train

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A man has lost his leg after being pinned underneath a freight train in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia this morning.
Authorities say this happened around 2:30am near Welsh Road and Grant Avenue when the man was hit by the train, and his leg became pinned underneath.
Chief Troy Gore of the Philadelphia Fire Department says it took rescue crews and a surgical team from Einstein Medical Center more than 2 hours to get the 46-year-old free.
"We had to amputate one of his legs to get him from under the train," he says.
Gore says the man was awake and alert when rescue crews removed one of his legs to get him out from under the train. He says the man was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.
There's no word on why the man was on the tracks to begin with.
