Elderly man in wheelchair hit by vehicle while crossing road in Southfield

An elderly man is injured after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing a road in a motorized wheelchair in Southfield, Michigan, on Saturday evening, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash in the area of 11 Mile Road and Marshall Street around 7:30 p.m. Investigators said the man, whose age has yet to be disclosed, was crossing 11 Mile Road when he was struck by the vehicle, which was traveling westbound. 

According to police, the man was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition on Saturday night. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene after the collision. 

As of Saturday night, the crash is under investigation.
