Police said that the officers spotted a 21-year-old man running away from the scene. As they chased him, he turned and shot at them. They returned fire and hit him in the right leg.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Rockaway and Riverdale avenues just after 7 p.m. Sunday while several children were playing in the street.
