A somber and focused funeral service was held Saturday for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Queen Elizabeth sat alone at the service due to COVID-19 protocols.
Buckingham Palace officials said Prince Philip's funeral will take place on April 17 at Windsor Castle in a family service that will be closed to the public.
Britain's Prince Philip was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years, making him the longest serving spouse of a British monarch.
Prince Philip, the husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, died Friday, April 9, 2021, at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
The 99-year-old is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of "observation and rest."
Queen Elizabeth II acknowledged that both Britain and her family have endured a difficult year by saying during her annual Christmas message that it has been a "bumpy" time.
Fiancees are generally not invited, but this year Queen Elizabeth made an exception.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip now have the longest royal marriage in British history.
Royal officials said Wednesday that both the queen and Philip were suffering from heavy colds.
