"This was an incredibly violent act and put the public at risk," said Supervisory Special Agent Barbara Daly.
The suspects, including doctors, allegedly worked with people posing as patients to defraud Medicare of more than $95 million, officials said.
"A gang of police officers who should have been keeping guns off the street --- instead smuggled 20 firearms into the city," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said at a news conference today.
