Former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has been hired as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University. The university in Fairfield, Conn., said Friday that Valentine's appointment will be formally announced next Tuesday.
The 43-year-old Rivera threw 25 pitches Friday and said he was happy with the results. He expects to be ready when the Yankees open the regular season on April 1 against Boston.
