How did we end up here? How did we get to the point where a minor league game in August could be the last chance to see one of the greatest players in baseball history?
Alex Rodriguez played in a simulated game Thursday, probably the last step before the New York Yankees send him on a second minor league injury rehabilitation assignment — if he's not suspended first.
We aren't angry at A-Rod because he makes the most money, but because he told the most lies. His montage of malfeasance is galling even by our subterranean standards.
Alex Rodriguez might not make it back to the Yankees this year. Or ever. MLB is threatening to kick A-Rod out of the game for life unless he agrees not to fight a lengthy suspension for his role in the sport's latest drug scandal.
"If (Commissioner) Bud (Selig) lets them get away with that, they're under the luxury tax," Showalter told USA Today Sports. "If they can reset, they can spend again and I guarantee you in two years Matt Wieters is in New York."
