Wright, Cano Will Be In The Starting Lineup At The All-Star Game

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - The New York Mets fans got their wish. They will see David Wright starting at third base when Citi Field hosts the MLB All-Star game on Tuesday, July 16th.

Wright will be making his 7th appearance in the MLB All-Star game.

The New York Yankees' Robinson Cano earned his 5th All-Star selection and will be starting at second for the American League.

The Orioles have three starters for the first time since Cal Ripken played in 1997. St. Louis, Cincinnati and Colorado each had two players picked by fans.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy and outfielder Adam Jones also made it for Baltimore. Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and injured shortstop Troy Tulowitzki were selected from the Rockies.

Joining them will Joe Mauer, Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, Jose Bautista and David Ortiz for the DH spot.

The list of reserves is as follows: Jason Castro, Salvador Perez, Prince Fielder, Jason Kipnis, Manny Machado, Dustin Pedroia, Jhonny Peralta, Ben Zobrist, Nelson Cruz, Alex Gordon, Torrii Hunter and Edwin Encarnacion.

The pitchers that made the American League roster are Clay Buchholz, Brett Cecil, Bartolo Colon, Jesse Crain, Yu Darvish, Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma, Justin Masterson, Joe Nathan, Glen Perkins, Mariano Rivera, Chris Sale, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.

First baseman Joey Votto and second baseman Brandon Phillips have made it for the Reds. Outfielder Carlos Beltran and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, the NL's top vote-getter, are representing St. Louis. Molina will likely be replaced after the Cardinals placed him on the 15-day DL.

Rounding out the National League starting lineup is Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, and Bryce Harper.

Backing up the starters on the National League are Buster Posey, Pedro Alvarez, Everth Cabrera, Matt Carpenter, Allen Craig, Paul Goldschmidt, Marco Scutaro, Jean Segura, Domonic Brown, Michael Cuddyer, Carlos Gomez, and Andrew McCutchen.

Matt Harvey will be making his first appearance at the All-Star after being named to National League roster. Joining Harvey will be Madison Bumgarner, Aroldis Chapman, Patrick Corbin, Jose Fernandez, Jason Grilli, Clayton Kershaw, Craig Kimbrel, Cliff Lee, Jeff Locke, Adam Wainwright, Travis Wood, and Jordan Zimmermann.

This will be the second time New York City has hosted the MLB All-Star game in the past five years.

Yankee Stadium hosted the All-Star game in 2008, which the American League beat the National League 4-3.
