Westchester County Community Considers 'Do Not Knock' List

RYE, NY (WCBS 880) - First, there was "do not call." Now, in one Westchester County community, there soon could be a "do not knock" registry.

It's a proposal to regulate legitimate door-to-door solicitors and, perhaps, deter the phoneys who are up to no good.

In Rye, on the table is a 'do not knock' registry.

Resident Frank Nelson says he doesn't want any strangers knocking on his door.

"...same as the no call list on the phone, which is completely annoying. And if it cleans it up as well as that has, I think it's a good idea actually," says Nelson, who adds that he is "suspicious and annoyed."

According to The Journal News, the proposed Rye ordinance would require solicitors to undergo a criminal background check and the cut-off to their operations would be 8 p.m. Homes on the 'do not knock list' will, of course, be off limits.
