West Nile Virus Forces Partial Closure Of Smithtown Park
SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - West Nile Virus has been found in mosquitoes at Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown.

That has forced the closure of the park at night, which is when the bugs are most active, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.
Suffolk County Health Commissioner James Tomarken said it's looking more and more like one of those real bad mosquito years.
"You can never predict, but it has started early. It does appear to be heading in that direction of a significant amount of mosquitoes as well as West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes," he told Xirinachs.
In the meantime, Tomarken suggests you protect yourself.
"People should look around there homes and clean up all standing water," he said.
When possible, you should apply bug spray and wear long sleeves and pants to prevent being bitten.
