As people begin to decorate their homes, the holiday spirit is not complete without a real Christmas tree. Among the vineyards of Long Island's North Fork is Zuhoski Farm, which has served Long Islanders since the early 20th century. With an abundance of Douglas Fir and Blue Spruce, people can cut their own trees with the help of farm hands. Once the perfect Christmas tree is selected, people relax in around the blazing fire pit with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate or cider and popcorn or candy canes. Zuhoski Farm sells various festive decorations, including fresh wreaths, centerpieces, garlands and other holiday greenery.

Whether people are looking for a Norway Spruce or a Colorado Blue Spruce, Mike's Christmas Tree Farm has a vast selection of favorite trees. While there may not be refreshments or Santa on site, there are constant Christmas carols played as people cut down their trees. Driven along a tractor-drawn wagon, people can browse daily of the acres of trees.

Instead of traveling to the East End, Long Islanders can head to Elwood Christmas Tree Farm in Huntington. From Scotch Pine to Douglas Fir and Norway Spruce, there are numerous styles of trees that are pre-cut. Even though the farm is opened daily, the owners are flexible to meet the schedule of hectic New Yorkers with just one phone call.

Long Island's Tilden Lane Farm is a small, family-run farm that gives families the experience to cut their own tree "with your saw or ours," as they say. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 26 through Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This picturesque and popular Westchester farm offers Choose-N-Cut Christmas trees and will even give you a free cup of their hot apple cider with every tree purchased. Baked goods and Christmas decorations are sold in their shop and the panoramic views of the Hudson Valley are spectacular.

Kids love going to Stew Leonard's, the grocery store with costumed characters, kids activities and entertainment. They offer a huge selection of pre-cut Christmas trees of every imaginable size and type. Once you have chosen your perfect tree and bought a few ornaments from their Christmas shop, they will tie the tree to the roof of your car for you.

If it's the classic holiday feel that you love, then head to this 45-acre slice of colonial Christmas. A hayride or stroll across a covered bridge will take you out to the fields, where you can cut your own tree. There are also pre-cut and potted trees. In addition to the customary firs and pines, Perfect Christmas Tree Farm is offering several exotic species of trees including Grand, Korean, Nordman and Niko fir.
