Top Al Qaeda Militant Indicted In NYC Subway Bomb Plot Killed In Pakistan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A deadly raid in Pakistan overnight killed an al Qaeda leader who was indicted in a plot to bomb New York City's subways.

Military officials said Pakistani soldiers killed Adnan Shukrijumah along with two other suspected militants in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal area early Saturday morning.

South Waziristan is part of the mountainous territory bordering Afghanistan that is home to various militant groups fighting both in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Shukrijumah was al Qaeda's chief of global operations, CBS2 reported.

He was named as a co-conspirator in 2010 in the case against three men plotting to bomb the city's subway system.

The FBI listed the 39-year-old Saudi national as a "most wanted'' terrorist and had offered a $5 million reward for his capture.
