TONY Kids: Ballet, Books And Music
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The weather may be cool, but the sun will be out, perfect for a weekend out with the family. Time Out New York Kids has some great suggestions. Executive Editor Rory Halperin is here with more.
1. American Ballet Theater Presents The Nutcracker
Children's Museum of Manhattan
212 W 83rd Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Aves)
The half-hour performance will feature a demonstration by students from American Ballet Theatres Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School, a pre-professional ballet training program for students ages 10 to 18. Additionally, workshops will be led where participants will learn the story and characters of The Nutcracker, and an ABT teaching artist will lead a session introducing ballet basics for young dancers.
When: Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
2. Farmer Jason
Symphony Space, Leonard Nimoy Thalia
Upper West Side
Join Emmy Award winning artist Farmer Jason for a morning of farm-fresh and wholesome songs. Who would have guessed that the legendary Jason Ringenberg, who pioneered the fusion of punk rock and country music with his band Jason and the Scorchers in the 1980s, could bring the same energy to songs about tractors, chickens and backyard animals? The results are a high-energy hoe-down for the kids pulled by a tractor and a singing farmer.
When: Saturday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m.
3. Pop Up Book Celebration at Books of Wonder
Books of Wonder
18 W 18th St.
Featuring four of today's most innovative pop-up and mechanical book creators: Matthew Reinhart, David A. Carter, Stephen T. Johnson, and Charise Mericle Harper. All four of these artists and paper engineers will present their new pop-up books for this fall, share their books with us, and take questions from the audience.
When: Sunday, Nov. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.
