Toms River Man Gets 12 Years In Child Luring Case
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) -- A Toms River man convicted of trying to lure three young children into a specially rigged, candy-filled van has been sentenced to a dozen years in prison.
Brian Warner, 51, will also be on lifetime supervision under Megan's law.
Warner was sentenced Thursday, six years after he tried to lure two sisters, ages 9 and 10, and their 7-year-old brother into a van equipped with a candy-filled cooler.
The van also had a police scanner, a cage, black louvers on the windows, soundproof padding and sensors to alert occupants if someone was approaching.
Warner maintained his innocence and his defense attorney says that while his behavior was peculiar, it was not criminal.
He stood trial on the charges in 2005, but the jury was deadlocked and a mistrial was declared.
