Teen Gets 15 Years For Brutal Rape, Robbery Near Brentwood Country Club
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- It was sentencing day on Long Island for the first of three admitted gang members charged in a brutal rape and robbery attack.
As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, he pleaded guilty to raping a teenage girl last year near the Brentwood Country Club, and on Thursday 17-year-old Jose Cornejo was sentenced to an agreed upon 15 years in prison.
Before he was sentenced, Cornejo told a Suffolk County judge he was sorry for what he did and sorry for everything that's happening around the world, Xirinachs reported.
Two of the three gang members admitted to beating and robbing the rape victim's male companion before two of them took turns sexually assaulting the girl while the third served as a lookout, Xirinachs reported.
An accomplice in the attack also pleaded guilty. He will be sentenced at a later date. A third accomplice who allegedly served as a lookout is awaiting trial.
