Teen Girl Fatally Shot Inside Apartment In Far Rockaway; 2 Boys Charged

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two 15-year-old boys have been arrested and charged, after a girl of the same age was shot in her apartment in Far Rockaway, Queens and later died.

Wilta Wordsworth, 15, was shot inside her seventh-floor apartment at around noon Friday, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

The teen was taken to a hospital, where she died early Saturday.

Sources told 1010 WINS Wordsworth had friends over at the time of the shooting. One of them brought the gun and was playing with it when it went off. A bullet struck her in the face and lodged into the back of her neck, sources said.

Building residents were shaken up to hear that Wordsworth didn't make it, Rivera reported.

"I just think it's senseless. Fifteen years old, it's sad, it's sad. I wish I could have done something to stop it," said one neighbor.

Police were able to track down two males who were seen running from the apartment soon after the shooting, Rivera reported.

The two boys, whose names were not released, were both charged with manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with physical evidence, police said.

Residents said Wordsworth lived in the apartment with her mother and a sibling.
