It was another special night last Saturday in Danbury, Conn., for the 11th annual Hillside Food Outreach Gala. Bernie Williams continued his tradition of combining baseball and music in an extraordinary way. While the baseball Q&A featuring David Cone, Cecil Fielder and Tim Raines was entertaining in its own right, the clear highlight of the evening was Williams' special musical guest -- Paul Simon.
For the fewer than 300 in attendance, what a treat it was to hear Simon and Williams perform together. The set list included "Mrs. Robinson," "The Boxer" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard."
Here's a clip of "Me and Julio" to see what you missed:
Simon, a huge Yankees fan, was so touched by the people who run Hillside Food Outreach and their continuing efforts to feed hungry families in the Hudson Valley that he pledged $25,000 on the spot.
Big things are in the works for the next HFO Gala, planned for November 9, 2013. For details, check out www.hillsidefoodoutreach.org.
