NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was struck and killed by a subway train in Midwood, Brooklyn Thursday evening.

The man was struck by a southbound Q Train at the Avenue M station shortly before 7 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Police said it was not clear whether the man jumped or fell.

A witness, Joey Baghdadi, took an Instagram video at the scene.

He reported that he was on the train and it stopped suddenly when only two cars had reached the platform.

Everyone on the train had to walk through to the front exit, where more than 20 police officers, firefighters and paramedics were directing passengers off the platform and down the stairs, Baghdadi reported.
