St. John's Forward Moe Harkless To Apply For NBA Draft

NEW YORK (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says St. John's forward Moe Harkless, the Big East Rookie of the Year, has decided to apply for early entry to the NBA draft.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the decision has not yet been announced. The school called a news conference for Monday at Madison Square Garden. Both Harkless and coach Steve Lavin are scheduled to attend.

The 6-foot-8 Harkless is one of five freshmen who started 12 games for the Red Storm (13-19) this season. He averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, which puts him sixth and second, respectively, among freshmen nationally.

When Harkless was honored during the Big East tournament he said he was going to talk with his coaches and family before making a decision, saying the NBA is every kid's dream.
