Sold Out Islanders Playoff Games Bringing Big Bucks To Nassau County Economy
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The New York Islanders playoff run has spurred the Nassau County economy.
The team's playoff home games have generated more than $1 million each in economic activity for the county, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
The sold out Islanders playoff games had fans coming into town and staying at hotels and spending money elsewhere, which helped generate big bucks for the county.
"The three home games generated approximately $1.4 million in indirect economic activity with direct revenues to the county of close to half a million dollars," Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos told Hall.

Maragos said the direct revenues include ticket sales, tax, concessions, parking and rental of the Coliseum.
There are more than 16,000 seats at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders are tied 2-2 in their NHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game Five is Thursday night in Pittsburgh. The Islanders will host Game Six on Saturday.
