Shore Memorial Hospital Buying Out 90 Workers
SOMERS POINT, N.J. (AP) -- Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point wants to buy out 90 workers, even as it moves forward with a
$115 million expansion plan.
The Atlantic County hospital is eliminating about 6 percent of its 1,600-employee work force. Buyout offers were extended to 368 workers yesterday, but the hospital does not expect most to accept.
Hospital management says it won't know if other cuts will be needed until it sees how many workers take the buyout.
An official says 490 unionized nurses are not included in the proposed cuts. The official promises services will not suffer from the staff reductions.
Shore Memorial says it has seen fewer patient admissions and reduced Medicare payments, as well as a rise in charity care cases.
