NYC Sanitation Department Unveils New Calendar
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- First it was the firefighters, then it was the cab drivers.
Now, New York City's Strongest are unveiling their 2017 calendar, which celebrates all the work the men and women of the Department of Sanitation perform.
"Sanitation provides such importance to the city," general supervisor Kathleen Kuonqui, aka Miss January, told 1010 WINS.
Not only do sanitation workers pick up trash and recyclables, but they also clear litter, snow and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of city streets.
Kuonqui said she hopes people find the calendar inspiring, especially women.
"I would like more women on the job, I would like women to continue getting promoted, it's definitely a great department, very diverse, we're very happy here. We like to motivate, we encourage people to do the right thing," Kuonqui said.
The Sanitation Department will be holding a meet-and-greet at noon Thursday in Foley Square, where attendees will have an opportunity to receive a free calendar.
