Sandy Relief Group Assisted By Grant From Robin Hood Foundation
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A local non-profit group in the Rockaways is helping victims of superstorm Sandy who are still in need four months after the storm hit.
A crew worked to gut 90-year-old Jack Dunn's home for free.
"I think it's a great thing," Dunn told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "They're a lifesaver, they really are."
The grassroots charitable group Friends of Rockaway is helping those who need work done on their homes and those who need a place to work.

"Friends of Rockaway is a local charity that was started by residents of Rockaway, New York. It's essentially a rebuilding charity," the organization's director Todd Miner said.
"We're doing that with local Rockaway people and military veterans - those are the people that we're hiring to do this work," Miner told Haskell.
The non-profit is hiring local residents in need of a job, including Arthur Jackson.
"It makes me pleased to be able to help someone else," Jackson told Haskell.
"I'd be doing this work whether I was getting paid or not. To be able to get paid and do it, that's great," another worker said.
Much of the money to fund the non-profit is coming from the Robin Hood Foundation, which raised more than $50 million in the 12-12-12 Concert For Sandy Relief.
The Robin Hood Foundation has distributed funds to hundreds of small grassroots organizations assisting in the Sandy relief effort all across the Tri-State Area.
