Ripple Effect Of Sandy: Reduced Attendance At Nassau Co. Museums
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Museums officials in Nassau County are complaining about the reduced attendance, and it can actually be traced back to superstorm Sandy.
Because it is still cold outside, museums there would normally have been packed during winter break.
But because of Sandy, many schools cancelled the break to make up for the lost days.

This has caused museums to lose thousands of dollars because attendance is down.
"It's probably about $5,000 that we're going to lose," Alana Petrocelli from the firefighters museum told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
At the Cradle of Aviation Museum, attendance is down 30 percent.
"What we've to kind of balance it out a little bit, we offered school groups a bigger discount to come this week," said Executive Director Andrew Parton.
He said the idea worked and some schools took them up on the offer.
