Ridgefield Park Student Arrested After Threat To 'Shoot Up' School

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A student was arrested this week after a threat to shoot up a school in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.

Ridgefield Park police detectives were contacted Tuesday evening about a single-sentence social media post, which made a general threat to "shoot up" a school, police said.

The threat was traced to the home of a 16-year-old who attends Ridgefield Park Junior Senior High School, police said.

Detectives began investigating, and school officials were notified. There was no evidence discovered that the threat was credible or that anyone was ever in danger, police said.

No victims or targets had been identified, and no plan was uncovered, police said. Police found no weapons or contraband, and no one else was suspected of being involved.

The 16-year-old was cited in a juvenile delinquency petition with terroristic threats, false public alarms, and cyber harassment. The teen has been banned from school, and appeared in Bergen County Juvenile Court on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police continued to investigate the incident late Thursday.
