Being "far" from home can be scary. Your shows might not be DVR'ing, you have no idea where the closest pizza place is and previous experience with waking up in a strange room has led to Shining-level night terrors.

Let's help make things a bit more familiar by introducing you to The Tappen, an organic-focused modern American restaurant that's housed in a historic colonial-era restored stone building in uptown Kingston.

With its more-than-subtle nod to history, you may feel like you've stepped back in time into the dining room of a Revolutionary War hero, thanks to details like drawings of historic Kingston landmarks on the walls, a colonial-style iron stove, and framed 18th century-style illustrations and documents. It all comes together to cultivate a cozy, dining-at-a-wealthy-yet-eccentric-relatives vibe.

Scope out the warm mustard-yellow dining room before gliding through to park yourself at one of the sleek and elegant tables, the ideal location for enjoying a pre-meal glass of wine or craft beer – they were just granted a liquor license and will have a full bar in addition to BYOB. But your ultimate aim is to satisfy that empty feeling in your heart belly.

To do so, you must fill your table with plates of farm-to-table-inspired Northern California slash New American fare from Bronx-born Chef Daniel Sherman: think rattlesnake bean and plantain flautas, wasabi-crust ahi tuna with sesame rice cakes, and mango-tamarind-glazed ribs with spicy slaw. Oh, and if you're feeling fancy but not too fancy, you can (short-term) invest in the truffled mac-and-cheese.

End the night with a walking tour of Kingston's historic old buildings and your far-from-home fears will soon dissipate...even if you're pretty sure you forgot to record Scandal.
