Reports: Peyton Hillis, D.J. Ware To Try Out For Struggling Giants

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's very ugly for the Giants at the running-back position right now.

The No. 1 back, David Wilson, is out with a neck injury. Da'Rel Scott is dealing with a bad hamstring and Brandon Jacobs, who turned back the clock against the Bears in Week 6, is questionable with a tweaked left hamstring.

It's gotten to the point where rookie -- and seventh-round pick -- Michael Cox might start for the winless Giants against the Vikings on Monday night.

With only one halfback healthy, the Giants are holding some open tryouts on Tuesday in an effort to add some depth -- and maybe, just maybe, catch lightning in a bottle.

According to multiple reports, Peyton Hillis will be in attendance.

The 27-year-old has played for the Broncos, Browns, Chiefs and Buccaneers. Hillis was active for just one game for the Bucs in 2013 -- he didn't have any carries or catches -- before being released on September 21.

Throughout his career, the sixth-year player has been named a Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week (2008), a FedEx Ground Player of the Week (2008, 2010) and an AFC Offensive Player of the Week (2010).

He was also on the cover of "Madden NFL 12."

The 6-foot-2, 251-pounder rushed for 309 yards on 85 carries in 13 games for the Chiefs in 2012, scoring a touchdown. He also caught 10 passes for 62 yards.

D.J. Ware will also be at the Giants' tryout on Tuesday, according to his agent.

The 28-year-old played for the G-Men from 2007-2011. He was released on August 31, 2012, by New York and spent 2012 with the Bucs.

The two-time Super Bowl champion was released by Tampa Bay on April 4.

Ware appeared in all 16 games for the Bucs in 2012, gaining 51 yards on just 11 carries and 100 yards on 14 catches.
