Giants Sign Veteran Guard Adam Snyder, Place Geoff Schwartz On IR

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants desperately need help on the offensive line.

With general manager Jerry Reese well aware of that, Big Blue has signed 6-foot-6, 325-pound guard Adam Snyder.

The veteran has started 62 games since the 2008 season. A third-round draft pick out of Oregon in 2005, he played for the 49ers from 2005-2011 and the Cardinals in 2012.

The 32-year-old returned to San Francisco in 2013 but was cut this past weekend when the team trimmed its roster down to 53.

New York's line took a big hit when high-priced free agent Geoff Schwartz suffered a dislocated right toe in a preseason game against the Jets on August 22. The guard has been placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, and likely won't make his season debut until Week 9.

Tackle Brandon Mosley is dealing with a back issue and four-time Pro Bowler Chris Snee announced his retirement in July.
